Consider Digestive Enzymes
Our children are almost universally nutritionally deficient due to poor digestion, leaky gut, limited range of foods and picky or self-selecting eating habits.
Plant based digestive enzymes help with digestion and the release of nutrients from food. This in turn nourishes the gut and the body to help actively heal.
A great resource for learning about the use of digestive enzymes is Karen's site
There is a 'Teach Me Quick' page with frequently asked questions and lots of references to published data covering the use of enzymes dating back over 80 years.
Not all enzymes are equal. Cheap enzymes are generally weak enzymes. There are many different types of individual enzyme; they are very specific in what they do, so you need to match the enzyme to the foods your child consumes.
High quality Autism specific enzymes cost from between £14-£22 for ninety capsules. One pots worth (a minimum 4 weeks use with low and slow dosing method) is enough to be able to tell whether or not they have a positive effect your child. See Links section on Supplement Suppliers.
As with any intervention (done with or without a Practitioner), do your homework, understand what, if any, adjustment effects you might see, how long to try it for to properly assess results and keep diligent notes in your Log for future reference. Something not working for your child will provide useful information for any Practitioner, as will details of the TYPE of improvements noted if it helps.
IMPORTANT: Digestive enzymes are not a substitute for dietary restriction in the case of true ALLERGIES or CELIAC DISEASE. However, they are often very helpful in the case of FOOD INTOLERANCE.
