Consider Basic Supplements

As noted previously, our children are almost universally nutritionally deficient due to poor digestion, leaky gut, limited range of foods and picky or self-selecting eating habits. When the physical problems have been addressed your child may be able to get most of their nutritonal needs met through wise food choices. Until that time, many children will benefit from high quality supplements.

There are many thousands of supplements available these days. Not all supplements are equal. Many come in different forms of the same substance and derived form various sources, some of which are often problematic for our children, such as corn.

Basic supplements might include

  • Digestive Enzymes
  • Multi-Vitamin and Minerals
  • Essential Fatty Acids (oils)
  • Probiotics

Some companies make supplements geared towards addressing the issues common in our children like Kirkman Laboratories (see the Links for rmore). These are generally 'free from' various substances that our children are often intolerant of.

Brainchild Nutritionals (BCN) Spectrum Support (multi vitamin and mineral supplements) were evaluated in a recent study at the Arizona State Unversity. There is now a UK distributor for BCN, further details in Links under supplement suppliers. Sample sizes are available.

Many parents worry about how on earth they will get their children to take any supplements at all. You'll get many great suggestions and solutions from experienced parents on the various Yahoo Groups, just ask!

IMPORTANT: Practitioners and experienced parents will always tell you, only ever start one supplement at a time and start below the recommended dose and work up slowly. This helps the childs depleted system adjust, in a smoother, less traumatic way.
