Digestive Enzymes - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Back

What does it involve?

Administering digestive enzyme supplements orally. Most plant based enzyme products are supplied in capsules which can be swallowed whole or opened up and added to food and drink. Enzymes are dosed according to the amount and type of food eaten rather than age of person taking them.

How might it help?

Digestive enzymes ensure that foods are properly broken down and that the nutrients are released and available to the body. Plant based enzymes are the ones most commonly used for our children. They start working on contact with food, whilst its still in the stomach. Pancreatic enzymes are useful in some situations, but they come as enteric coated pills which cannot be crushed and must be given whole. Supplemental pancreatic enzymes don't start working until they reach the intestinal tract.
