You can't do this alone and there is certainly no need to! Many thousands of parents and carer's are in the same position as you.
Yahoo groups are a wonderful resource for discussion and sharing of experience. We have links to the most popular groups in the Links section. If you are new to the Internet and haven't a clue about Yahoo, click HERE for 'Yahoo Groups 101'.
When you first join a group, in can seem as if everybody is chatting in code -oodles of abbreviations. You can download a list of abbreviations from the Useful Documents page which will help you with many of the most commonly uses acronyms.
Be bold, post an introduction and remember. that the ONLY silly questions are the ones you DON'T ask!
Make inquiries locally to see if a support group exists. If you are aware of other parents locally investigating the biomedical option, perhaps start a group of your own!

Treating Autism has purchased a number of biomedical related books, which are available for loan to members. We only have single copies of many, so depending on demand, there may be a wait.

Here in the UK, we are pitifully short of experienced and competent Practitoners, Treating Autism with the full range of treatments.
However, the good news is they are some out there!
Talk to other parents who have found help, getting personal recommendations is often the best way to locate professional help.
Some families travel to the USA to see DAN! Practitioner's - the most popular ones have waiting lists, as do the ones in the UK. The best are often worth waiting for. We have listed some practitioners in the Links section*
Unlike the majority mainstream doctors, practitioners who choose to work with our children, expect and appreciate working in partnership with parents and carer's, after all, you know your child best. Help them by preparing for your appointment. Document your child's history, medical, developmental and behavioural. Note vaccines, infections and illnesses, include any treatments given. List any medications or supplements you have tried and the responses, whether positive or negative.
This can be a depressing, painful and time-consuming exercise, but if you keep the file safe, back it up, print it out, you'll only have to do the historical stuff once. Make a plan to keep the document updated.

There is a plan underway, to provide regional treament centres in Italy (eventually expanding Europe-wide) combining biomedical and educational care. We will keep you updated on this impressive initiative, spear-headed by Dr Franco Versella, a DAN! Practitioner based in Bologna, Italy.
