Joshua - Update Late October 2005
I thought that I would post a quick update from the story that I posted a little over a month ago about our son's progress . Here is some additional info that may be helpful to some. After posting the story, I have had emails from all over the world, and many people asked my wife and I if we had tried or were doing the B12 injections. At the time, the answer was "no". I could not bring myself to stick a needle into him.
Well, that has changed. Two weeks ago, we started these injections (one every three days at midnight) at the advice of several other parents and out of our own curiosity, and WOW! Just when we thought things could not get any better, they did again. Thank you all for the advice.
The following day after the first injection, my wife called me at work and told me that I had to come home and listen to Joshua, because she could not believe the improvement in language from only less than a day after the first shot. She said that he was being "really cute". Of course, I was interested and rushed home to see what she was talking about.
When I arrived, I saw my son running around with his brother and two other neighbor kids and kicking the ball around with them. It was almost like he was barking orders at them. Personally, I think that he was just excited because everyone could actually understand him for a change. He was very talkative, animated, and easy to understand, and he was speaking in longer sentences while adding the little words that he usually skipped in his speech (ie - Instead of saying "want ball" he would say things like "I want the ball" etc.). Once again, he amazed us.
I stared at him and my wife in disbelief, and she told me that he had been like that all afternoon. We had also received a note from his preschool saying that his language had been incredible that day. My wife seemed excited and said to me, " Watch this, he is being so cute." She called him over to her. It was almost like he was a little upset when he walked over to her, because he was having so much fun with his brother and the other neighborhood kids. She said something to him to try and get him talking again. For the life of me, I cannot remember what it was she asked him, but he looked up into her face, raised his little finger and pointed to her face and said, "You Shut Up, Mommy? Right now!" Then he ran back to the other kids. God love him. We were laughing hysterically. I think the B12 shots were working a little too well. How could I get mad? His older brother has been bringing some wonderful phrases home from Kindergarten. We can work on manners later, although I thought to myself, "that is right, Daddy does not take any crap from Mommy either!" (Just joking Angie ;~).One other thing, since I wrote the original story about Joshua's recovery, he has continued to practice with his 6 year old brother's flag football team until the end of the season. I was fortunate to get video of it to continue to document his progress. We are still seeing big gains after every round of TD DMSA. We switched to 4 hour dosing, and we seem to be getting even better results (in the last 3 rounds).
